Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket Town is the island's premier private hospital — international insurance accepted, full English-speaking staff, and the best-equipped emergency department on the island. Phuket International Hospital near Patong is convenient for beach-area tourists. Vachira Phuket Hospital is the main public hospital — competent care but expect longer waits and limited English.
SIM cards are the same as mainland Thailand (AIS, DTAC, TrueMove); available at the airport. Emergency calls work from any phone. Wi-Fi is available at most hotels and restaurants. Mobile signal coverage is good in tourist areas but can be patchy in the island's interior hills.
Water safety is Phuket's biggest risk. Red flag warnings on beaches mean no swimming — rip currents cause multiple tourist drownings each year, especially during monsoon season (May–October).
